A Mammatus Sky Watch

90 degree weather

+ high humidity
=
thunderstorms and skies to watch.

Thanks to EcoRover, I know what these clouds are called
that bubbled up it our skies last night.

Mammatus!

They are not the ordinary clouds that we see in our very usual
northeast weather.
Our camera did not capture just how low and water laden they were.
You know it just poured.
The lightening was amazing too...
...electric curls spiraled through the mammatus cloud balloons.
{thank you, Chris, for  running out to take these photos}

It will be over 90 degrees in my second floor classroom today.
It's a good day to 'be still.'
I'm so glad that we have several days in the 70's coming our way!
...perfect for baking strawberry shortcake biscuits...

There are more amazing sights to see at

  1. Hi, Maria! Are you still in school? When does your school year end? We are on our 12th or 14th day of mid- to upper 90s down here with very high humidity---and NO rain. Even for the sunny south, this is hot! More like August weather. So very thankful for air conditioning. :) I'm supposedly on summer vacation, but my first week off has been so busy, you'd never know it. Speaking of busy, I hear my little LE waking up. Time for breakfast!

  17. it's been a spring of very wild weather here in the Midwest. our string of 3 consecutive 95 degree days ended with thunderstorms last evening. today it's 48. I suspect that is headed your way. I've learned something about the naming of clouds here today, so thank you for that. and thank you for sharing your most lovely skies filled with Mammatus! happy SWF.

  21. They look like soft cotton puffs - not scary storm clouds. Our schools here in CO are mostly over for the summer (except year-round). I hope your days are numbered in the classroom if it's getting so hot and humid. Must be difficult to both teach and learn. (Now my mind is on that biscuit shortcake you're promising, Maria.)

  27. Hi Maria, just saying hello really, your skies look wonderful, anyhow nicer than our shade of grey over here; been cool recently, as if summer came and went already. OK, will not be pessimistic, but today I wore a summer dress to church, and was mighty cold, sneezed a few times. Never mind, had a nice cuppa after service. Wishing you a lovely week ahead and all the very best, love and hugs, Lori xxx
