Tulip Trees

Liriodendron Tulipifera
"The Lily Tree that produces Tulips."

Carolus Linnaeus, a Swiss botanist, named this
interesting and beautiful tree.
~ ~ ~
Because of it's large trunk and excellent buoyancy,
it was used to make canoes for early explorers and settlers.

This beautiful tulip tree grows at the end of our cul de sac.
It is in full bloom now and is so very
splendid

{photos taken June 2 in the early morning}

{a peek inside the flower of the tulip tree}

It is the state tree of both Kentucky and Tennessee,
but I am so glad we have one here in
New York!

Enjoy your springtime!
Keep cool
Keep calm
Stay refreshed
inside and outside

Wishing you great JOY!
~Maria

  3. The spring storms took the top out of a tulip tree here, it was a fairly young tree compared to several huge ancient ones on the property, on one which we hung a swing once, on a limb 30 ft. up. That was fun! The swing now needs to be replaced though.
Enjoy the end of spring, Maria!

  5. Hiya Maria,

By coincidence my skywatch picture this weeks sports the same tree.
But...only a few years old and not showing signs of flowering yet.

Now I know what it will look like when it grows up ( and up and up :-)
It's in the family of magnolia I believe.

  17. That certainly is a magnificent specimen. I have tried to grow them but they need a lot ore water than we have here. I just go to visit my favourite examples in a valley in the Victorian alps.
When you look into the heart of the flower it is so like a Magnolia. Don't you just love it in it's golden coat when fall comes?

  19. Maria, I certainly thank you for posting these pictures. I've never seen a tree like this one - it's splendid, for sure. Very beautiful and unique.

As always, you've given your readers something to admire and enjoy. Thank you!

Mom had surgery over two weeks ago - it's been touch and go. She's still in the hospital, but they think she might come home early next week if she keeps improving. That's why I've not been online very often. Anyway - have a wonderful weekend.

    Blessings,
    M.

  21. What a neat tree! This is a new one for me-- and the flowers are quite different from what we know as tulips--wonder how the name was chosen...

  23. Our tulip trees bloomed about 3 months ago--ha--and I am so glad you are enjoying springtime but it is hot summertime here already!!

Our tulip trees are smaller--haven't seen any that are anywhere near that big--and your bloom looks a little different also--I loved getting to peek inside.

Hope your weekend is blessed dear friend.

  26. Hi Maria, I come running to your lovely little corner. Where did time go? I must admit I have a little under the weather all week long, not feeling sick really but just not getting things done.
Bresten turns 7 tomorrow and we are off to the SS Rotterdam, a cruise ship. It's a hotel these days and we will spend a night. I have planned to sit on the deck and do nothing nothing nothing. Will instruct Mark to take the little monkeys on a tour guide ;)
Love to you sweet friend o xx o I hope my flower seeds will arrive in your backyard soon now, it's about time they disappear in the soil. I was a little late this year. Did not plant mine either yet .. x oo x

  30. Great shots of a beautiful tree in bloom. I think we called them "tulip poplars." Have you met their relative, the cucumber tree? It makes a cucumber-like fruit that's very stinky.
