Sixth Grade OLYMPIC GOLD

What a wonderful week we had.
~
We prepared in many ways.
Every day there was a 'little something OLYMPIC.'
One of my students was busy dreaming up a Jello recipe.
It received a GOLD MEDAL for effort, taste and perfection!
There were BIG smiles when this was 'unveiled.'
We had our own version of passing the 'torch.'
We passed around our paper chains of OLYMPIC colors...

...and...
Miga, Quatchi and Sumi, the Olympic mascots, connected each student's chain.
Some of my After School Book Club students stayed a little later on Thursday to decorate the back wall in preparation for our OLYMPIC celebration day.
We'll be adding more flags when we return from winter break...
...and we will begin our Reading Olympics competition!

Several students took home extra crafts and even spent time making
OLYMPIC
mascot finger puppets!

Maria was busy making 48 cupcakes.

The Wonder Company made these cute pins ~ they became my cupcake deco's!

Wonderful OLYMPIC snacks to enjoy while I read the book Koralee sent me.
Thanks again, Koralee!

We had great fun at our OLYMPIC Extraveganza.

I hope you enjoy all the
OLYMPIC   FUN
That's about to unfold!

Thank you Canada for hosting such an incredible event!

A Morning Moon

“In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter,
and sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.”

~ Kahlil Gibran ~
~  ~  ~
and now here's mine ;o)

When the moon's out in the morning
and the day seems upside-down
say a prayer ♥ to the Creator
and the day can
turn around
~  ~
~
I thank God for coffee too!

My Grandmother's Dishes

Tablescape Thursday
has me pulling out dishes and sweet lovelies
that I've had for years and enjoying them more than ever!
*
These are my grandmother's dishes.
 I polished my cupboard
and washed all her dishes.

I spread out the lace and set the places.

I added some springtime candlesticks.
This sweet silver pedestal dish will hold something delicious.
I picked this up at an estate sale for $6.

The kids will be over tomorrow to celebrate a special day for my husband.
It's his birthday!

Dora
  ~My grandmother~

She's holding my sister's hand in this picture
about 42 years ago!
We lived next door
on the other side of her duplex.
She was (and still is) one of the sweetest women I know.
I spent many afternoons having tea with her.
Sometimes, I'd help her clean,
we would polish her dining room furniture
and I would wash all her pretty dishes and tea things.
On those days, she'd get the ice cream out and we'd have sundaes!
I was only 14 when she passed on and I was so heart broken.

When I got married, my mother gave me my grandmother's dishes.
I treasure them.

"Daisy Ann" by Royal China.
They are very old.
The Royal China Company was founded in 1934 in Sebring, Ohio

Please stop over to Susan's to see some spectacular tablescapes...

Taking Care of You!

As we are taking care of others
and so many of us do
remember to spend
a little extra time
taking care
of you!
I thought of my mother, in her younger years...
and spent the evening looking through old albums.

I could almost hear her whisper

Take care of yourself, Maria!

~ Okay, Mom
