Ice Cream Parlor Days

Can you still walk to an ice cream parlor?
I remember the days when we did. Our local drug store had a wonderful ice cream parlor and soda fountain. The father of one of my best friends, Colleen, owned the store. It was a favorite stop for me on our way home from school (We really did walk several miles home from school!)

Today, in a different lil' town, I can still walk to an ice cream parlor. It is completely retro and attached to a fabulous cafe.
I love living in "small town USA."

This weekend, my husband and I visited with family. My camera was very busy! These photos, of one of their most recent craft projects, inspired this post.
Enjoy photos of "Main Street Cafe."
Made by Gerry and Ann :)
I think they captured the spirit of the old fashioned ice cream parlor PERFECTLY!
Many of the miniatures were hand-crafted!
*I'm working on my daughter's iMac... The pictures won't open larger when clicked... I'll reload them when I get home on my PC*
They're really worth seeing up close!

  1. Maria,
No walking to an ice cream parlor from here, tho there are several a few miles away in town. Years ago, when I was young, there was a Dairy Queen about a mile from home, and we would walk there at least once a week for a treat. I remember my getting paid for my 1st babysitting job and taking my family out for ice cream!

  5. some people are so good with their hands. I remember when I was a student in Canada, it was freezing cold, and I walked passed an icecream parlor everyday day. In winter, it was closed, but they have big cartons of ice cream at the window.

I grew up in a rural setting, but now live near the big city. I love the small town feel!

  7. Brings back memories. Like the time, I was tubing down the creek with friends (inner tubes), stopped at the back yard of the local farm... walked (all wet) into the barn, and bought freshly made ice cream that he made there.

  9. Hi Maria,
I remember the ice cream parlor well! As a teen (this was in ancient times...) it was the place to be discovered.
