Sky Watch Friday 7-24-09

~Through the Bridge and Onward Home~
On the way to L.I. we took the ferry out of Connecticut
...It cost almost $70 ONE WAY for ONE HOUR
(car, driver + one passenger)
We only went one way!
...To save money, it was city driving for the way home...
Entering the Tappan Zee Bridge ... as we cross the Hudson River north of New York CityLove having a cellphone camera handy!...through the middle...
Just about to clear....
For upstate 'country' folks, it's quite a trip driving around the 'big city.'...a must when we visit family downstate...

Enjoy all the other people who notice
calm, sunny, stormy or dramatic skies ...
...then reach for a camera at
Sky Watch Friday!

  1. Wow, that's an expensive ferry ride. Wow! How exciting though... never driven on a ferry boat before. Great shots!

  2. Why is the ferry so expensive? It must save a lot of drive time and miles, right. I've lived in small towns so many years now, I think it would be frightening to drive in the big city. Many years ago the freeways of California didn't bother me, but now I get nervous in heavy traffic. Hope you had an enjoyable trip.

  3. Thanks for stopping by! The cars board the ferry... and the ride is only an hour. We've never taken the ferry until this trip...too expensive for a whole family... Three X the fee for extra passengers... $14 one way, $24 round trip (no round trip price for car) It was about $150 for all of us to save a couple of hours of driving... Kind of wild huh! ~Maria

  5. The bridge looks so much like the Oakland-SF Bay Bridge. Happy skywatching.

  7. It was quite a trip home. Averaged around 30 MHP for a 150 mile trip, I495, across the Throgs Neck bridge, I295 to I95 to I87N, across the Tappan Zee...etc.

  8. It is expansive, but for once it is an experience. I used to also drive through Tappan Zee bridge from Boston to NJ to visit my sister. Thanks for visiting our blog and nice comments. Have a nice weekend!

  10. Well - you had an expensive ferry ride, but lovely skies. The girders of the bridge were nice against the sky, too.
