Winter Delights & Spring Promises

While walking through our village park

I noticed the magnolias have such pretty buds

They will brave the cold and snow wearing
Fuzzy winter coats.

They are

Promises of Spring

promise

The crabapple trees
have lost their leaves
but
they are decked with bright red berries
a favorite treat for the robins
These berries (lil' apples) convince the fruit-loving
birds to stay a little longer.

I can hear them in the trees.
Pretty soon,
the crabapple tree in the front of my house
will be a
Thanksgiving banquet to many robins
and then,

The robins will truly be on their way.

Let's prepare our own warm winter coats
and
...eat plenty of apples & berries for good health...

~Have a wonderful week everyone~

  1. I notice the rosehips this year were extremely large, between them and the crabapples the birds should be happy for awhile! Lovely composite of photos Maria, would make beautiful notecards.

  4. You just put a pretty face on colder weather. I appreciate that as winter isn't my favorite season. I hope you have a lovely week!

  5. I am wearing my fuzzy coat here in Breckenridge, Maria, but I don't think we have a promise of spring quite yet. It was minus 4 this AM! Your photos of the buds and the berries are lovely - I like the framing. I also like to think about the berries being a Thanksgiving feast for the birds! Stay warm and enjoy the beauty around you.

  6. I always feel such a sense of peace when I visit here Maria. You have such a sweet spirit.
When the robins leave you, they will eventually show up here. I'm looking forward to seeing them.

  7. Oh I love your post today...Robins are one of my favourite birds. We have a hollytree and all the birds gather around it....so amazing. I always watch for the first Robin every Spring and record the date in my journal.

  10. Nice. I like the tribute to crab apples, and the role they and similar trees (how I love the mountain ash) provide needed food at a critical time of year.
