Last night I was thinking of
"Owl and the Moon" and so, in honor of Arnold Lobel, {the author}
I sat up and snapped this photo!
OWL at HOME?
© 1975
"The Guest"
"Strange Bumps"
"Tear-Water Tea"
"Upstairs and Downstairs"
and
"Owl and the Moon"
Arnold Lobel wrote and illustrated all five stories.
Each one is a favorite in its own way.
When my children were little, this collection was always requested.
{It was probably because I enjoyed reading it aloud, and they could tell!}
I can still recite most of them by heart.
Last night,
The bright shining moon woke me up in the middle of the night.
My first thought was from this story.
My second thought was,
"Where's my cellphone,
I'm going to take a picture of you Moon!"
I'm going to take a picture of you Moon!"
from
"Owl and the Moon"
". . . All at once,
Owl's bedroom
was filled with silver light.
Owl looked out of the window.
The moon was coming
from behind the clouds.
'Moon, you have followed me
all the way home.
What a good, round friend
you are!' said Owl.
Then Owl put his head
on the pillow
and closed his eyes.
The moon was shining
down through the window.
Owl did not
feel sad at all."

"What a good round friend you are!"
If you have lil' ones...
Owl at Home
is a wonderful first reader.
I can't look at the full round moon without
thinking of Owl's words, "What a good round friend you are!"
If you have lil' ones...
Owl at Home
is a wonderful first reader.
I guess Owl is a sky watcher too!
Thank you to our Sky Watch Friday hosts:
Enjoy
the sky
the sun
and the
moon!
~ You are the joy of His heart ~

ReplyDeleteGreat book. And a wonderful post Maria.
Enjoy sky watching.
I did not know Owl and the moon yet, but it surely looks and sounds as lovely as his other books. 'frog and toad' shines on our bookshelf. Cannot get enough of the sweet little stories and the beautiful drawings.

Wishing you a wonderful Thursday, I will look at the moon tonight and think of you, Maria. xx

ReplyDeleteI wonder if my granddaughter knows these books? Love Di ♥
Hey, you have a round friend here--I don't know how much good I am. ha
ReplyDeleteHave you ever read Owl Moon by Jane Yolen--absolutely one of my favorites ever--
Thank you, dear Maria, for a precious post. The same thing happened to me the other night but I did not even think about taking a picture. I'm slipping.
Love you,
D.
OH Maria!
ReplyDeleteBOund for you to bring me to tears!
Yes!
Yes! What a sweet story from my childhood!
A favorite my mom would read to us!
ANd of course I have read all the Arnold Lobel books to my kindergarten and first graders over the years!
Now you WILL NOT believe this!
But last night...
when I went up to bed...
that SAME MOON...
was BEAMING so brightly into our bedroom!
I gazed at it!
I cracked several windows to bring it even closer to us! (greg and doogan and I!)
Then I said to myself...
this is a moment!
I've GOT to go get my camera!
I've GOT to share this MOON!
But I didn't!
I didn't go get my camera!
And now here you are...
sharing the same MOON with me...
from your window!
Oh I am getting my camera out tonight!
I am going to WAIT on that big bright full MOON!
Hope it's still full tonight!
xxooxoxoxox
Such a lovely, atmospheric photo! I'm a real Arnold Lobel fan, too. Never read this one, but I love his mouse books, and the Frog and Toad series. I'll have to look for the Owl books too.
ReplyDeleteHappy sky-watching, from Joysweb!
Ah, yes, I read his books to my students when I was teaching school years ago. Love them and how perfect to go with your moon shot! Terrific! Hope you have a lovely weekend, Maria!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
Beautifully framed moon.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
We love, love, love Arnold Lobel: Frog and Toad, Lucille the Horse and another one about a pig (I forget the name) I will add Owl to the list. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou took that with a cellphone? My camera doesn't even take good moon shots.
ReplyDeleteI love children's books, but my kids didn't have this one. I think I may open the blinds and let the moon shine in my window tonight.
Sue
